About NewTaiPAY
New Taipei City is the most populous city in Taiwan, with a vast territory and a population of over 4 million. It faces global climate change by responding to the COP28 resolutions of the United Nations to commit to net zero emissions and SDGs 13: sustainable development. New Taipei City was the first in Taiwan to sign a “Climate Emergency Declaration” in 2020. To achieve the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 30% by the year of 2030 and targeting the net zero carbon emissions by the year of 2050. New Taipei City has launched “New Taipei Mobile Payment App (NewTaiPAY)” to implement carbon reduction activities, striving for reaching the vision of a zero-carbon city.
Introduction
NewTaiPAY is an innovative payment tool launched by the New Taipei City Government, with sustainable carbon reduction and public welfare at its core. The app instantly pushes the latest municipal information to citizens and establishes a municipal interactive reward mechanism for distributing New Taipei Dollars, encouraging public participation in municipal promotional activities, boosting local tourism by increasing exposure and customer attraction of partnered merchants on the platform, stimulating the local economy through a points system. Through policy implementation, accelerate the digital payment transformation for both citizens and merchants, while the city government replaces traditional physical promotional materials with digital points to reduce the carbon emissions associated with idle promotional materials. New Taipei City is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions and has implemented smart mobile payment policies to create a contactless, low-carbon new economic model.
